How to convert bar to kilopascals
- Type a value in bar into the converter above.
- The answer in kilopascals shows as you type. It uses the formula kilopascals = bar × 100.
- For example, 1.01325 bar is 101.33 kPa.
About bar and kilopascals
A bar is defined as exactly 100,000 pascals, which is 100 kilopascals. Multiply bar by 100 to get kPa: 2.4 bar is 240 kPa and 0.5 bar is 50 kPa. No rounding is involved.
Bar is common on European gauges, boilers, pumps and dive cylinders, while kPa is the SI unit used on tire placards in Canada and Australia and in engineering specs. Since one is a round multiple of the other, the only trap is the decimal point.
Examples
- 1.01325 bar (standard atmospheric pressure) is 101.33 kPa
- 1.5 bar (a typical combi boiler reading) is 150 kPa
- 2.4 bar (a common car tire pressure) is 240 kPa
- 232 bar (a common scuba cylinder fill) is 23,200 kPa
